For Retro Computing Enthusiasts

Issue #16 Digital Editions Are Going Out Today

Digital editions of COMPUTE!’s Gazette Issue #16 (Volume 2, Issue 10, October 2026) are being sent to subscribers today. If you have a digital or print+digital subscription, watch your inbox for an email from us containing your download links for the issue and this month’s Gazette disk images.

This is our “ghost in the machine” issue, built around unsolved mysteries and strange tales from vintage computing. Highlights include:

  • The Machine That Never Died: For forty-five years everyone knew that one line of BASIC could kill a Commodore PET. We went looking for the body.
  • Sleuth 64: an all-BASIC murder-mystery type-in for the Commodore 64, with the mixed-case version on this month’s disk
  • Type-In Time Machine: a new monthly column from Bryon Thur, debuting with Crossroads from the December 1987 Gazette
  • MLX32 Version 1.1, with a fix for the bug found and diagnosed by reader John Paul, included on this month’s disk
  • The debut of our back-page business card section, featuring ten makers building things for retro machines
  • Plus Back to BASIC, Micro Missions, The 640K Club, The Gazette Wire, and all the regular columns

Print copies for quarterly subscribers ship together at the end of the quarter as usual.

If your email hasn’t arrived by tomorrow, check your spam folder first, then contact us at support@computesgazette.com and we’ll get your links resent. Not a subscriber yet?
